FAQ's

WHAT WAX DO YOU USE?

Our main wax is soy blend. Any candles we produce are 100% Soy. Our melts are made with 99% Soy and 1% Paraffin Wax. Our Soy wax is UK grown and non GMO. Our Paraffin wax is of the highest quality and is food, cosmetic and medical grade. This allows us to be vegan friendly and cruelty free. Our suppliers ensure us that our wax is highly refined and does not contain any harmful substances.

DO YOU USE ESSENTIAL OILS?

We use fragrance oils when creating our melts; whilst essential oils can be used and are safe for wax melts, we find the scent throw to be better with fragrance oils. All oils are not tested on animals. Oils are professionally handled and manufactured in the UK and paraben free. All our products are CLP compliant and information required is supplied on our packaging.

WHAT COLOURING DO YOU USE?

Mica colours are used within our melts which are all natural, cosmetic grade and if we are a little biased, beautiful! We also use candle dyes in some of our melts which is of highest quality and cruelty free. Please be mindful that some of our darker colours may stain some surfaces due to the high amount of mica powder used to achieve their colourings, so we would recommend a melt liner in these scenarios to prevent staining. Any glitters and paints in our colouring is biodegradable and cruelty free and vegan friendly.

Whilst mica powder doesn’t actually provide a full colour to the wax, it gives off a shimmer which makes the wax look coloured. Mica powder is actually heavier than wax so when this is mixed into wax, it will swirl around giving off its beautiful shimmer but if left, will sink to the bottom of the wax. This is totally normal.

WHAT BURNER CAN I USE YOUR WAX IN?

Not all burners are equal so please be mindful when choosing one. Ensure your burner is made for wax (and not just oil) and if you are using electric burners, a higher wattage would ensure the wax has an even melt throughout the plate. Our wax is designed to take longer to melt, which maximises the scent throw for a more long lasting and even smell throughout the room.

If you are using a tea light burner please use tea lights that have no more than 2 hours as the burner can become too hot and cause the fragrance to burn off faster than normal. ensure the burner dish is at least 9-10cm in distance from the tea light base.

All our melts have been tried and tested by Gem and her team to ensure the highest of standard.

We are not responsible for the misuse of our wax in other burners and we have no control over the burners that are manufactured, or how they perform aside from those we try, test and sell ourselves.

If you do not have the right burner for our wax, we are not responsible for the melt not working as desired. Our recommendation for a burner would be Yankee Candle's Ceramic Standard Burners with a tea light that burns 2-3 hours at most.

WHY ARE SOME OF THE MELTS PATCHY, FADED IN COLOUR OR SPECKLED?

This is known as frosting. It is a natural by-product of wax and does not affect the burn ability or the fragrance. It is caused by crystal growths that form on the top and sides of wax melts - similar to how it sometimes happens with chocolate!

It is something we do try to minimise and we are working with different methods to try and reduce this. We are also looking at different suppliers for our Soy/Paraffin wax and Mica Powders alongside different pouring temperatures and other tips and tricks we have been given by suppliers.

On the positive side, it makes your wax melt unique in it's design and once melted, still gives you an amazing fragrance and wax pool.

WHY IS THERE SMOKE COMING FROM THE BURNER WHEN THE WAX IS MELTING?

This is actually the fragrance oil burning off, it is normal and can occur when there is too much heat or the melt is highly fragranced. The tealight could be too big for example and cause an increased heat to the plate. Do you have enough wax in the burner too? Certain fragrances do have a lower heat tolerance and may smoke more than others, please do not be alarmed, it is vapour. If you are finding this is happening regularly, we recommend switching to an electric burner or using smaller tea lights.

HOW DO I GET THE WAX OUT OF THE BURNER AFTER USE?

A method that we have tried and tested is using cotton wool balls to soak the wax up, being mindful that the wax will still be hot. Other techniques is allowing the wax to cool and solidify then heating just enough to allow you to pop the melt out in one block. Further techniques can be found online via our Social Media channels.

CAN I USE WHILST PREGNANT?

Our products are non toxic and our fragrance oils used are paraben free. However if you do have any concerns we would advise you consult with a medical professional before using any of our products.

ALLERGENS

All our products are handmade in an environment where nuts may be eaten or stored. Whilst we take care to ensure our surfaces and storage areas are clean and our melting equipment is washed and disinfected after each use, we would still advise caution. Our warning information is provided with each product and if any allergic reaction does occur, please stop using immediately and consult your health care professional. We do also have options to have our wax melts un-fragranced - please speak to us to let us know!
